Objectives:
*Practice finding cause and effect in a magazine article.
*Use a graphic organizer to help organize causes and effects.
Period 1
This is a one-hour core plus class.
Hand out Questions of the Day, Vocabulary List 9, and Vocabulary Study Chart.
Students will write the definition and a sentence for each word on the chart. In addition, they will add the three academic vocabulary words, vary, source, and occur. Make sure they all write a sentence.
Timed Readings - read independently page 33, answer questions page 34.
If there is time left, have them read Number the Stars.
Periods 3/4 and 5/6
Hand out question of the day for the week (1 page)
Put the Monday starter on the overhead and pass out their Read 180 Starters weekly answer sheet. (This is new to them as I usually give them the whole page. Go over the instructions and give them 5-10 minutes to complete. Then, go over the answers with them and have them put their starter page in their binders.
Rbooks - pages 172 -173 transparencies are on the overhead. Do this with them.
Rotations
Group 1 - Read 180 --no internet - please write down their name if they go on. They may only do R180
Group 2 - Independent Reading - 3/4 they can read "On My Honor". 5/6 "Rules" (unless they're reading their independent book)
Group 3 - Small Group Prefixes worksheet (if time is left they can go on R180 or read)
Rotate after 25 minutes
