Lesson Body Grade Level

1st period

Have the students finish their last question of the day.  Then, hand in their packets for the week including timed readings, vocabulary, Walter Mitty, etc.

Hand out the quiz "Vocabulary Quiz" Lists 7-9. Collect.  Students may talk during the quiz.

The students each have a graphic organizer (shaping sheets) in their binders (extras are included).

They  are to go on the internet (yes, this time they may) and research a favorite author.  They need to take notes (they can't print them out) about their author.  Some will have to double up on the computers or take turns.

Periods 3/4 and 5/6

Question of the Day (have them hand it in)

Starters -- put Friday's starter on the overhead.  Collect the answer keys

rbook - Pages 180 -181  follow the teacher's guide

Rotations -

Divide the students into 2 groups - half will read independently and half will research their favorite author on the computer (they may not check email or surf). After 30 minutes, switch.

I will try to bring in "Alien's of the Deep" for them to watch during the last 30-40 minutes.
